Two important events will also happen during this time.

   The Second Resurrection

40F.1   When will the second resurrection take place? 

In Revelation 20:5, this is written:

The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. (RSV)

The same verse in another version of the bible: 

But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. (NKJV)

The second resurrection will take place, a thousand years after the first resurrection. 

Who will be resurrected on the second resurrection? What is this resurrection for?

• The rest of the dead will now be resurrected. Meaning all the dead who were not included during the first resurrection.
• This is the resurrection of condemnation or resurrection of judgment (John 5:28-29)

   The Release of Satan

40F.2   What will also happen during the the time of the second resurrection?   Who will be released from his prison?  

In Revelation 20:7,  this is written:

Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison

Satan will be released from his prison in the bottomless pit, after a thousand years has expired. This will take place with the second resurrection.

40F3   How many are the dead who will take part in the second resurrection, and what will Satan do to them?

In Revelation 20:8,  this is written:

and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. (NKJV)

The dead that will be resurrected will be as many as the sand in the sea. And Satan will deceived them and gather them to battle.

Those who are not included in the first resurrection will all be resurrected in the second resurrection in order to face judgment.  They will suffer both on Judgment Day when all the ungodly are destroyed (II Peter 3:7 & 10) and on the second resurrection, a thousand years latter. They will be thrown into the lake of fire and will be tormented day and night forever and ever. This punishment is called the second death which is the full payment of sin.
