40H.   The Meaning Of Christ Resurrection

40H.1   What is the great significance of the resurrection of Christ Jesus to the people who belong to Him?

Apostle Paul tells us of the great significance of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He declares:

"But the truth is that Christ has been raised from death, as the guarantee that those who sleep in death will also be raised."  For just as all people die because of their union with Adam, in the same way all will be raised to life because of their union with Christ. (I Corinthians 15:20, 22 Today's English Version)

The great significance of Christ's resurrection is that;

  • It serves as an assurance that those who belong to Christ will also be resurrected at Christ's second coming.
  • For just as all people die because of their union with Adam, in the same way all will be raised to life because of their union with Christ.

40H.2   Is it possible that resurrection from the dead will happen to ordinary people who belong to Christ?

In 1 Corinthians 15:23, Apostle Paul explains:

But each in his own order: Christ the first fruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.  ( RSV)

The same verse in the another version of the bible:

Each one will rise from death in his proper order. Christ was the first one. The people who belong to Christ will rise from death when Jesus comes.  (International English Bible)

Yes, it is possible. Each one will rise from death in his proper order.

  • Christ was the first one when He was here on earth.
  • Second, all the people who belong to Christ will rise from death when Jesus comes the second time.

40H.3   What  is the assurance given by Christ, that those who believe in Him will be resurrected to life?

In John 11:25-26,

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.  "And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?''  (John 11:25, New King James)

The Lord Christ Jesus gave this assurance to all those who believe in Him:

  • Jesus said: "I am the resurrection and the life
  • Anyone who believes in me, even though he dies like anyone else, shall live again.
  • And anyone who believes in me that is still alive on that day will shall never die.

________________________

The resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ is one of the greatest event in the history of Christendom. Not only did this fulfill the biblical prophesies concerning Christ's work and mission but it also significantly manifested the fulfillment of man's long standing hope of victory over his greatest problem — death — and his attainment of God's promised salvation and eternal life.

We should believe what Christ said in order for us to belong to Him. Thus, we will be either, part of the first resurrection or be one of those alive waiting for Him when He comes the second time, and thereby, attain the promised eternal life.
