So the three components of man separates
when a man dies - the body return to the dust
from where it was taken; the spirit return to
God who gave it; and the soul who sins will also
die. Contrary to common belief, the spirit is different from the soul.
12D.1
If the spirit is different from the soul, where will the soul go when a man dies?
In Psalms 119:25, this is also written:
My soul clings to the
dust; Revive me according to Your word. (NKJV)
The same verse in another version of the
Bible:
My soul cleaves to
the dust; Revive me according to Your word. (NRSV)
According to King David, the soul
clings or cleaves to the dust.
Contrary to popular belief, the
soul does not go anywhere nor transfer to other people or animals, but, the
soul clings or cleaves to the dust.
12D.2 What will
happen to the soul? Does the soul remain in the dust forever?
In the second part of the verse, Psalms
119:25, it is explained:
My soul clings to the
dust;
Revive me according to Your word.
(NKJV)
The soul does not remain in the dust
forever. King David says: the soul will be revived
by the word of God.
12D.3
The soul of a dead man is in the grave, cleaved to the
dust. How long will it stay there?
In Job 14:10& 12, the Bible made
it clear:
But man dies and
is laid away; indeed he breathes his last And where is he?
so man lies down and does not rise. Till the heavens are no more,
they will not awake nor be roused from their sleep. (NKJV)
When a person dies, he will
stay in the grave till the heavens are no more. So, there
will be a time when the soul will be revived by the word of God.
12D.4
Is there is a definite time given by the Bible "till the heavens are no
more"? When will this time happen?
The Bible clarifies the time when
the heavens are no more or when the "heavens shall pass away", in II Peter
3:10&7, this is written:
But the day of
the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass
away
with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both
the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
But the heavens
and the earth which now exist are kept in store by the same word, reserved
for fire
until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. (NKJV)
The heavens will pass away or
the heavens will be no more on the Day of Judgment.
12D.5
Why? What will
also happen on the day of Judgment?
In the
following verses, these are written:
Do not be astonished at this; for
the hour is coming when all who are
in their graves will hear his voice
and will come out--those who
have done good, to the resurrection
of life, and those who have done
evil, to the resurrection of
condemnation. (John
5:28-29,
NRSV)
The sea gave up the dead who were
in it, and Death and Hades delivered
up the dead who were in them.
And they were judged, each one
according to his works. (Revelation
20:13, NKJV)
This is
the time when the soul of the dead man
will be resurrected or brought back to
life. That is when those who are in the
grave will hear his voice.
This is the realization of the following
pronouncements in the Bible that are
written above in Q&A 12D.2 and 12D.3.
But man dies and is laid away;
indeed he breathes his last And
where is he? so man lies down
and does not rise. Till the
heavens are no more, they
will not awake nor be roused
from their sleep. (Job 14:10&
12, NKJV)
My soul clings to the dust;
Revive me according to Your
word.
(Psalms 119:25, NKJV)
The soul of the dead that clings to
the dust will be resurrected to life
according to the word of God.
This is the reason why the soul is
very precious to God.
(1Peter
3:4)
