God is properly served if his commandments and statutes are
properly kept and observed. This for the good of man.18B.1
What is the rule of God in
the observance of His commandments?
In Deuteronomy 12:32 it is
recorded:
"Whatever I command you, be
careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from
it." (NKJV)
God says: Be careful to observe
it: "You shall not add to it nor take away
from it". God is strict in the
observance of His commandments.
No one is allowed to observe God's commands in his own way.
18B.2
Why is God so strict in the observance of His commandments?
In Matthew
5:18, Jesus emphasized this point when He
said this:
I tell you the truth, until the
heaven and earth disappear, not the
smallest letter, not the least stroke of
pen, will by any means disappear from
the Law until everything is
accomplished. (Mathew 5:18, NIV)
The same
verse in another version of the Bible:
I
am telling you the truth: While
heaven and earth are standing, not
even the smallest letter--or part of
a letter--can be changed in the law
until everything is completed. (IEB)
No one can
change the law or any part of the law,
because everything in the law shall be
accomplished or completed while heaven and
earth are still standing.
18B.3 What is the
danger in tampering with the commandments of God?
Revelation 22:18-19 reveals this truth:
18. For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book:
If anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book;
19. and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life,
from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
(NKJV)
Anyone
who dares to add or take away from God's commands or statutes will
suffer the consequences written in the book. God shall take away his
part from the book of life—he will not be saved.
