42B.   The Importance Of The Gospel In The Life Of Man

The Gospel is God's message to all mankind about salvation.

42B.1   To whom did Christ commanded His Apostles to preach the Gospel?

In Mk:16:15, Christ commanded his Apostles:

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (KJV)

The Apostles were commanded by Christ to Preach the Gospel to every creature in all the world.

42B.2   What is the importance of the Gospel in the life of man?

In Mark:16:16. it is written

"He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. (NKJV)

The Gospel is very important in the life of man because it is a matter of life or death;

  • He who believes in the Gospel  and is baptized will be saved.
  • But he who does not believe in the Gospel will be condemned.

42B.3   What should a believer do to ultimately attain salvation through the gospel?

In I Corinthians 15:1-4, this is written:

Now, brothers, I want to remind you of the Gospel I preached to you, which you received and on which you have taken your stand. By this gospel you are saved,  if you hold firmly to the word I preached to you. Otherwise, you have believed in vain. (NIV)

The same verse in another version of the bible:

And now I want to remind you, my brothers, of the Good News which I preached to you, which you received, and on which your faith stands firm. That is the gospel, the message that I preached to you. You are saved by the gospel if you hold firmly to it--unless it was for nothing that you believed. (TEV)

In order to attain salvation, one must hold firmly to the gospel.

42B.4  How should one hold firmly to the gospel?

In Colossians 1:23, it is written:

Provided that you continue securely established and steadfast in the faith,  without shifting from the hope promised by the Gospel that you heard, which has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven. I, Paul, became a servant of this Gospel. (New Revised Standard Version)

To hold firmly to the gospel is to be continuously secure and steadfast in the faith without shifting from the hope promised by the Gospel.

42B.5  What is the condemnation reserved for unbelievers? What misfortune await those who do not obey the Gospel of Christ?  What will God do to them?

In 2 Thessalonians 1:8-9, the answer is given:

in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (II Thessalonians 1:8-9,NKJV)

To all unbelievers and those who do not obey the Gospel of Christ:
They shall be punished with everlasting destruction.
