42G.1 How do the
true Preachers of God think about
the Words of God written in the Bible?
In 1 Corinthians 4:6, this is written:
Now these things, brethren, I have
figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that
you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of
you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. (I Cor. 4:6,
NKJV)
The same verse in other
versions of the Bible:
I have applied all this to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brethren, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.
(RSV)
Now
these things, brethren, I have figuratively applied to myself
and Apollos for your sakes, so that in us you may learn not
to exceed what is written, so that no one of you will become
arrogant in behalf of one against the other. (NAS)
The Preachers of God "do not think or
go beyond or exceed what is written", thus, they only preach what is written in the
bible.
42G.2 What does "do not think
beyond what is written" mean?
In Deuteronomy 12:32, it is
explained;
"Whatever I command you,
be careful
to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
( NKJV)
The Preachers of God teach or preach only what is
written in the bible, "neither adding to it , nor taking away from it".
42G.3 If a Preacher adds or
diminishes from the words or commandments of God, is it still the true
Gospel that he preaches?
In Galatians 1:6-9, this is recorded:
I marvel that you are turning away so soon
from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different Gospel,
which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and
want to pervert the Gospel of Christ.
But even if we, or an angel from heaven,
preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you,
let him be accursed.
As we have said before, so now I say again,
if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have
received, let him be accursed. (Galatians 1:6-9, NKJV)
Adding to it and taking away from
words or commandments of God will pervert or change the Gospel of
Christ.
If a preacher or teacher adds to or diminishes from the words or
commandments of God, it is no longer the true gospel that he teaches or
preaches, but a different gospel. It is a different gospel,
not in
the sense that a different Bible is used, but the true Gospel is
perverted. So the teacher or preacher of a different gospel should be
accursed.
42G.4 How much or how little should not
be added to or disappear from the commandments of God?
In Mathew 5:18-19, this is written:
I tell you the truth, until the heaven and
earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of
pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is
accomplished.
Anyone who breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in
the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these
commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (Mathew
5:18-19. NIV)
Our Lord Jesus Christ emphasized
that, "not even the smallest letter, not the least stroke of pen, should be added to or
disappear from the commandments of God because everything has to be
accomplished.
The Lord even warned that
"anyone who breaks one of the least of these
commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in
the kingdom of heaven",
42G.5 How grave is the punishment
reserved for those who add to or diminish the Gospel or the Words of
God?
I warn everyone who hears the words of the
prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them,
God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if
anyone takes words away from this book prophecy, God will
take away from him his share in the tree of life, in the Holy City, which
are described in this book. (Revelation 22:18-19, )
To those who add to the Words of God or to the Gospel, plagues will
be added. And those who take away from the words of God or the Gospel
will have no share in the tree of life and in the Holy City. In
other words, they will not be saved.
